After a couple delays, Kelly Clarkson has released Stronger and I think it was well worth the wait. You’ve probably already seen a couple of the tracks here and on her youtube. Kelly released them because she wanted to go ahead and leak these songs in their proper forms since they were already leaking anyway. I have to say that those songs, as much as I enjoyed them, don’t quite do justice to most of the other tracks. Here are some of the highlights, IMO-
You Love Me/This is a rock-influenced track that talks about the good side/bad side of a bad releationship and being dumped. You learn a lesson and realize that person is just weak and making excuses.
I Forgive You/Another rock influenced track. This one talks about learning to not just forgive someone when a relationship goes wrong, but forgiving yourself as well. You realize you were just kids and couldn’t see that the situation wasn’t a good one.
The War is Over/This is a bit of a slow, moody song that speeds up just a little and takes on a rock edge during the chorus. It talks about finally having enough of getting treated badly and deciding to just walk away because staying will just draw you into their games again.
Let Me Down/This is a mid-tempo song with a rock influence on the choruses. The beats in the chorus kind of remind me of “Tip of My Tounge” from her last album. She talks about knowing that someone is not going to be good for you, but you take a chance anyway and get let down. One of my favorite bits is:
But I’m just dumb enough to linger
I wanna think that you’ll be different
Smoking mirrors are so clever clever
I picked him and things went so bad
Then what you say won’t actually happen
I’ve been dying to open my eyes
See you try instead of always leaving me out to dry
You Can’t Win/This is another track that speeds up a little when the chorus kicks in and I love the story in this one. It talks about how no matter what you do you’re not going to win. Someone is always going to be there to say you’re too fat, too thin, etc. The message you take away from it is do what you think is right for you instead of trying to please people.
So what do you all think? Love it, hate it, don’t care? Comment back and let’s chat! See ya next time…
