I thought I would share something a little different for the 4th of July. Ultimately, this day is about people fighting for the freedom of this country and, sadly, sometimes that comes with a huge cost. This song was a bit controversial when it came out, but I think it’s beautiful and a very fitting tribute…
So what are you doing to honor this date? Any parties or BBQs in the works? If so, I found this listing of 100 Patriotic Songs on Yahoo!Voices to help plan a play list for the day. Enjoy and I’ll see y’all tomorrow
Don’t forget to comment with your plans and favorite songs for the 4th!
Beautiful song, very fitting, fail to see the controversy. War always comes at a huge cost and this song is about an individual whose family suffered the huge cost twice. Or did I miss anything?
I think it’s a beautiful song as well; it moved me to tears when I first heard it. I looked up some info to remind myself about the issue surrounding the song. Apparently, Trace received numerous letters from families of soldiers who felt the song presented a negative outlook while their loved ones were fighting overseas. Trace himself decided to stop promotion of the single in respect for their wishes.
It is admirable that he took their opinion so seriously and acknowledged it. I do not have the perspective of a family with someone fighting so I can only imagine and respect them. Thanks for taking the time to answer and to find out why there was controversy.
No problem
Yeah, I have an enormous amount of respect for him and more after reading that. He basically gave up a hit with that, as the song was doing really well. Have you ever read his book? He is definitely a survivor. LOL
No I have not read his biography, I am afraid that I read many biographies of people in the 1930s to research my book TBOD and now I find that with the book I am writing I don’t have the time…
Maybe someday!
For modern Bio’s I usually look up the people I find interesting and get the Mini version!
I know what you mean. I got so tied up with things, I’ve had to stop doing reviews for blog tours for a while just to get caught up in what I want to read. LOL. If you get the time, it was well worth it in my opinion.
