Well, there will be no wisdon from Wysteria Lane to share tomorrow because tonight ABC is getting taken over by the American Music Awards. It’s airing tonight at 8 PM eastern time. I have to be honest here… I feel completely out of touch with most of today’s music. I wouldn’t even know some of these aritsts songs at all had it not been for the return of Pop Up Video.

I’m going to check it out, though, and report back on the show. Hopefully, I’ll enjoy the performances. Let’s talk a second about some of the categories and nominees (you can see a full list here).

The first that that got my attention is the “Contemporary Inspirational Artist” list. The nominees are Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani. Gwen is a complete mystery to me period… what is she inspiring us to do, avoid being a hollaback girl? Or maybe she wants us to contemplate what we’re waiting for? I like some of Gwen’s music, I just don’t see where she fits. I don’t see where Christina fits this year, either, considering she last year she released songs like “Not Myself Tonight” and “Whoo Hoo”Of course I could just need  a better explanation of the category! Anyone?

I also am sad to see so many nominations for Chris Brown. His other issues recently not withstanding… I just don’t see what the big deal about his music is and, yes, I have heard several now. For some reason, Pop Up Video loves to include him. I’m also sad to see J Lo and Marc Anthony there to represent the Latin category where there is no mention of or perforamnces scheduled by Thalia. Primo Fila was great and she’s one of my favorites. Here’s a little sampling of it:

Ok, back to the good stuff… I couldn’t be happier to see The Band Perry represented as well as Kelly Rowland. I think she’s very under-rated and under appreciated. I also like seeing Kelly Clarkson on the list of performers on the show’s Facebook page.

Speaking of Kelly, her unplugged aired on VH1 and what a performance it was! She killed every song and I preferred her version of “I Know You Won’t” to Carrie’s. She seems like a really fun performer I would love to see live myself one day. Check out this article with some commentary by her that didn’t make the show.

Well, I guess that’s about it for now. What do you guys think about the AMAs and its nominees? Did you see the Unplugged special? Comment back and let’s talk about it. Til next time…
