Today, I thought I would bring you another version of Musical Face-off. I got inspired to do another one after coming across this group. A Facebook friend and fellow shared one of their songs, and I was inspired to check them out more, leading me to their YouTube account. WARNING!! Potential massive time suck ahead. 🙂
The group specializes in doing covers of current songs in old styles, although they’ve thrown in some ’80s and ’90s songs too. This particular version of a Backstreet Boys hit was done in a ’70s Soul style. Check it out:
I really love combination of modern music with old styles, especially when they delve back even further to the early 20th century. I think the singer here is awesome and the song lends itself well to the change.
And, of course, now we have the original.
The music and vocals are pure ’90s, which I love, as I spent the decade going from Middle School to college. This music holds a lot of great memories for me and I think I’ll always have a soft spot for it. Especially the way these guys harmonize. Still, I think I’m going to give the edge to the Post Modern Jukebox for putting a totally new, fitting spin on it.
What do you guys think? Do you like their version of this, or are you partial to the original? Comment and let me know. 🙂
